The Purpose and Benefits of Cupping Therapy

Ever wondered about the magical world of cupping therapy? Well, you’re in for a treat! Cupping therapy is like a time-traveling remedy from the ancient past, where we place these funky cups on your skin for a few minutes. But here’s the quirky twist – instead of pushing down like your typical massage, these cups play a little game of suction. It’s a sensation that’s hard to put into words, but trust us, it’s pretty cool.

Cupping for the First Time

So, picture this: you’ve got two cupping styles in this massage extravaganza. There’s ‘gliding cupping,’ which feels absolutely divine. Some say that just 5 minutes of cupping is like a 30-minute deep-tissue massage. We’ll glide that cup around your shoulder blades, helping your muscles relax and support your scapula.

And then, the cups get their moment to shine. They just chill on your skin for about 10 minutes or so. Oh, and don’t worry about those round marks you might see afterward; they’re painless and vanish in a few days.

Now, let’s dive into the benefits of cupping:

  1. Get that radiant glow: Cupping improves your skin’s appearance by boosting blood circulation. It’s like a spa day for your skin!

  2. Healing powers: Athletes love it for a reason; cupping helps heal injuries. But it’s not just for the pros – everyday folks recovering from mishaps also swear by it.

  3. Happy tummy, happy you: When we cup your tummy, it eases muscle tension and stress, making your digestive system do the happy dance.

In traditional Chinese medicine, they connect cupping with all sorts of things, but we’re all about those muscle feels, flexibility, and pain reduction here.

This list barely scratches the surface, my friend. Cupping therapy’s real magic lies in improved circulation and detoxification. And there’s even some fancy research on it! So, if you’re ready to take a dip into the cupping world, Geek Girl Massage Therapy has got you covered.

Short answer: Yes.  However, if you have face fillers or have had botox in the last 6 weeks, then that would be a contraindication.

Facial cupping can temporarily relieve TMJ pain as well as sinus pressure.

At Geek Girl Massage, I offer a combination of cupping and massage.  I use silicone cups to glide along the muscles.  Then I place cups along common trigger points and let them sit for about 10 minutes.

No.  Most people really don’t notice it.  However, if at any point it hurts beyond your tolerance level, or you decide, “Ya know, this is not for me! Hate this!”   Then say the word, and I’ll stop cupping and just continue with massage.

If you’re a current client and are experiencing Frozen Shoulder, Plantar Fasciitis, or Carpal Tunnel, it may be worth is to purchase a Pain Relief Package.

If you haven’t been diagnosed with one of those conditions, and just want to try it, just book 1 session and we’ll go from there.

For people with chronic conditions like the ones mentioned above, it generally takes 4-5 sessions. Just remember that everyone is different, and a lot depends how long you’ve been dealing with the pain and lack of range of motion.

You can see the side by side photos of this client.

The next photo was taken after his 4th session.

He came in once a week for about six weeks, and even after the first session, his pain decreased significantly.
